Timur Bekmambetov

bekmambetov_1.jpgbekmambetov_0.jpg

I decided to write about Timur Bekmambetov, because nowadays he is one of the most popular and talented and successful Kazakhstani-Russian producer. In spring 2007, he was nominated on “Cinematographist of the year” and won!! Among nominators there were such famous producers as Rustem Abdrashev, Igor Gonopolskii, Satybaldy Narymbetov and Murat Nugmanov. But unfortunatily, now he is living in Russia, and all his films he shoots in Russia and abroad. He was the director of 2004 film “Night Watch”(Nochnoi Dozor), a popular Russian fantasy film based on the book by Sergei Lukyanenko, and its sequel, Day Watch (2006). These two films had a great success as in Russia, as here- in Kazakhstan.

Saying about his biography, Timur Bekmambetov was born on the 25th of June, 1961 in Guryev (present Atyrau, Kazakhstan). From 1979 till 1980 he studied in Moscow Airline University. Also, in 1987, Timur ended faculty of painting of Tashkent Unoversity of theatre and painting. Later, as painter was working in theatre “Ilkhom”. After that Timur decided to go to Moscow. There, he began to shoot music and advertising videos. In 1994 Timur Bekmambetov founded studio, called “Imperial-film”, then in 1999 created a company- “Bazelevs”. He became popular as producer after shooting a series of advertising videos for bank “Imperial” (1992-1997), which were awarded by many prizes of different international festivals of advertisement. Also, popular producer were shooting advertisement for such big companies as “Pepsi”, “Seldom”, also for bank “Slavyanskii”. In 2000, Timur began to shoot 3 video clips for popular Russian singer- Ulii Chicherinoi. One of the clips called “Zhara” got a prize from Russian Film Academy and was nominated on “MTV Music Awards-2000”. This year was really successful for Timur, because he also became a member of Russian Academy od Advertisement.

Nowadays, Timur Bekmambetov is working in Los Angeles. Also, he is shooting a film, called “Wanted” with such famous Hollywood artists as Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy. And, one of the interesting news, I have learned about him, is that recently, producer shooted the 2nd part of the legendary film “Irintya sud’by: prodolzhenie” with famous artists, that were playing in previous part of the film!!! We will be waiting for his premiers!! I thing it will be something interesting!!!
